Overview
The Giza Plateau and the surrounding Memphite Necropolis represent over a thousand years of Old Kingdom architectural evolution. Operating with private air-conditioned transport and dedicated Egyptologist guidance, this 7-to-8-hour tour links the principal archaeological sectors southwest of Cairo into an efficient full-day route. The journey begins early at the Giza Plateau to examine the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, followed by a visit to the Valley Temple and the Great Sphinx. Continuing south along the desert edge, the tour explores Saqqara—site of the Step Pyramid of Djoser (mankind's earliest colossal stone structure)—and concludes at Memphis, the ancient capital founded by King Menes, home to the colossal limestone statue of Ramesses II and the Alabaster Sphinx. Detailed Itinerary
Stop 1: Pickup in Cairo or Giza (08:00)
Your licensed Egyptologist and driver collect you from your hotel. Starting at eight matters here: the plateau opens early and the difference in both heat and crowds by eleven is substantial.
Stop 2: The Great Pyramid of Khufu (08:45)
The only surviving wonder of the ancient world, 2.3 million blocks and still the tallest structure built by hand for nearly four thousand years. Entering the interior passage requires a separate ticket bought at the gate; it is a steep, low, unventilated climb and not for the claustrophobic.
Stop 3: Khafre, Menkaure and the panoramic viewpoint (09:45)
The second and third pyramids, then a short drive into the desert to the viewpoint where all three line up in a single frame. This is where camel and quad photographs are taken if you want them.
Stop 4: The Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple (11:00)
Approach through the granite Valley Temple of Khafre, the best-preserved Old Kingdom building on the plateau, which brings you out facing the Sphinx from the front rather than from above.
Stop 5: Lunch (13:00)
A break of about an hour at a local restaurant near the plateau.
Stop 6: Khan El-Khalili (14:15)
Dive into Khan El-Khalili's inner alleys for alabaster, spices, silver, and handmade lamps.
