Luxury Dahabiya Nile Cruise

Luxury Dahabiya Nile Cruise

Sail the Nile on a dahabiya, a small twin-sail wooden boat carrying roughly a dozen guests, mooring at village landings the large ships cannot reach.

Book Tour

Overview

A dahabiya is the most elegant way to travel the Nile — a traditional two-masted sailing vessel with billowing sails, polished brass, and just a handful of luxurious cabins. Unlike the larger cruise ships, dahabiyas can dock at small villages and lesser-visited riverbanks, offering a more intimate and authentic experience. Your five-day journey between Luxor and Aswan (or reverse) moves at a gentler pace, with stops at temples timed to avoid the large cruise ship crowds. Evenings are spent moored at quiet islands, dining under the stars on deck with cuisine prepared by your private chef. Each cabin features large windows opening directly to the river, en-suite bathrooms, and traditional Egyptian furnishings. With a maximum of 12-16 guests, this is the Nile at its most personal and luxurious — perfect for honeymoons, anniversaries, or travelers who prefer authenticity over crowds. Luxury Dahabiya Nile Cruise is organized as a day-by-day Nile program with embarkation details, temple visits, sailing or transfer logic and optional extensions explained clearly. Each cruise day now shows what you see, why it matters and how the route connects Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan. Trip information Duration: 5 Days Schedule: Set sailing days; confirmed with your dates Tour location: Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan Pickup location: Luxor or Aswan, depending on the sailing direction Tour type: Private

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Boarding at Esna

Board the dahabiya at Esna, south of Luxor. With around six to ten cabins the boat is quiet, and it sails by wind rather than engine wherever the river allows.

Day 2: El Kab and a desert island mooring

Visit the rock-cut tombs of El Kab, then moor at a sandbank island for swimming and lunch served on deck. There is no fixed schedule beyond the temples.

Day 3: Edfu and Gebel Silsila

The Temple of Horus at Edfu in the morning, then sail to the sandstone quarries of Gebel Silsila, a site large cruise ships pass without stopping.

Day 4: Kom Ombo and a Nubian village

The double temple of Sobek and Haroeris, followed by a walk through a riverside village with your guide.

Day 5: Aswan and disembarkation

Arrive in Aswan for Philae Temple and the Unfinished Obelisk before disembarking after breakfast.

FAQ

Is everything on board included?

Full board is included: breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on the ship for every night you sail. Drinks other than water with meals, the onboard bar, spa treatments and laundry are charged separately and settled at the end of the cruise.

Is the guide private or shared with the whole ship?

Your guided visits ashore are private for your party alone. Meals, the sun deck, the pool and the evening entertainment are shared with the other passengers, which is what keeps a cruise more affordable than a fully private boat.

What is the dress code on board?

Daytime is completely casual: shorts and swimwear are fine on the sun deck. Dinner is smart casual, and most ships hold one galabeya night where guests wear the traditional robe, which you can buy locally for a few dollars. For temple visits, shoulders and knees should be covered.

I am travelling with children. Do they pay the full price?

Children under 2 travel free of charge. Ages 2 to 5.99 pay 25 per cent of the tour price, ages 6 to 11.99 pay 50 per cent, and from 12 years a child pays the full adult rate. Child pricing applies to children sharing their parents' room or cabin, with a maximum of two children per room. Tell us your children's ages when you enquire and the quote reflects them.

Is the price per person or for the whole group?

On this Nile cruise the published rate is $2,164 for one traveller, $1,678 each for two, and $1,610 each from three people upward. All prices on this page are in US dollars per person, and the rate drops as the group grows because the vehicle, guide and driver are shared across more travellers. Holiday departures over Christmas, New Year and Easter are quoted separately as they carry a supplement.
