Luxor Day Trip from Hurghada

Luxor Day Trip from Hurghada

A long day trip by road from Hurghada to Luxor covering Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut with a licensed Egyptologist.

Book Tour

Overview

Luxor is roughly four hours west of Hurghada across the Eastern Desert, and it is the single best reason to leave the Red Sea coast for a day. The drive starts before dawn so you reach the West Bank while the tombs are still cool. You visit the Valley of the Kings, the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon, break for lunch, then cross to the East Bank for Karnak, the largest religious complex ever built. It is a demanding day: around eight hours in the vehicle in total. If you would rather not do it in one go, the same itinerary is available with an overnight in Luxor, which also opens up the sunrise balloon flight. FAQ

Do I need to be able to swim?

Life jackets are provided and the crew stays with the group in the water, so confident non-swimmers can usually take part in surface activities. If you cannot swim at all, tell us when booking and we will confirm whether this particular trip works for you or suggest a dry alternative such as the glass bottom boat or submarine.

Is equipment included, or should I bring my own?

Masks, snorkels, fins and life jackets are provided and sanitised between trips. Bring a towel, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen and a waterproof phone case. If you prefer your own mask for fit, you are welcome to bring it.

What if I get seasick?

The Red Sea is usually calm in the morning and choppier after midday, so most trips do the main stops early. Take your medication about an hour before boarding, sit on the lower deck near the centre of the boat and keep your eyes on the horizon. Tell the crew and they will find you the steadiest spot.

Are hotel transfers included?

Yes. You are collected from your hotel in Hurghada, Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh or El Gouna and returned there afterwards. Tell us your hotel name when booking so we can confirm the pickup time, which varies by area.

I am travelling with children. Do they pay the full price?

Children under 6 travel free of charge on this tour. Ages 6 to 11.99 pay 50 per cent of the tour price, and from 12 years a child pays the full adult rate. Tell us your children's ages when you enquire and the quote reflects them.

Is the price per person or for the whole group?

On this Hurghada trip the published rate is $343 for one traveller, $216 each for two, and $173 each from three people upward. All prices on this page are in US dollars per person, and the rate drops as the group grows because the vehicle, guide and driver are shared across more travellers. Holiday departures over Christmas, New Year and Easter are quoted separately as they carry a supplement.
