Detailed Itinerary
Stop 1: Morning pickup in Aswan (08:00)
Collection from your hotel or moored Nile cruise. Aswan is smaller and slower than Luxor, and most of this day happens on the water.
Stop 2: Felucca sail around Elephantine Island (08:30)
A traditional sailing boat around the granite boulders and the island that gave Aswan its ancient name, with the Old Cataract hotel and the Aga Khan mausoleum on the west bank.
Stop 3: A Nubian village on the west bank (09:45)
Painted houses, indigo and ochre walls, and a chance to see how Nubian communities relocated after the High Dam flooded their land. Tea in a family house is usually included.
Stop 4: The Unfinished Obelisk (11:15)
Still attached to the bedrock in the northern granite quarry. Had it been completed it would have been the largest obelisk ever raised, and the abandoned cut shows exactly how they were quarried.
Stop 5: The Aswan High Dam (12:15)
The 1960s dam that created Lake Nasser, ended the annual flood and forced the relocation of Abu Simbel and Philae. Your guide explains the trade-offs, which are still debated.
Stop 6: Philae Temple by motorboat (13:15)
The temple of Isis, dismantled and rebuilt block by block on Agilkia Island during the UNESCO rescue. The approach by boat is part of it.
Stop 7: Return transfer (15:00)
Back to your hotel or cruise. Abu Simbel can be added as a full early-morning excursion on a separate day.
